The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber is excited to partner with Golden Path Solutions and other partners across the state to provide employers an online training opportunity to explore work-based learning as a workforce development strategy. Golden Path Solutions partners with North Dakota Career & Technical Education on a system called Compass that helps schools and employers offer and manage work-based learning opportunities to high school students. We’re excited to offer this opportunity to learn more about work-based learning and how your organization can take advantage of this program to build your future workforce.

In this kickoff session of our Work-Based Learning (WBL) webinar series, we’ll provide a high-level overview of what WBL is and how it functions as a key tool in connecting students to the workforce. We’ll explore the different types of WBL experiences, how and when they can be offered to students, and the range of opportunities available—from job shadows to internships and beyond.

You’ll learn how to offer WBL opportunities to students, including what they can and can’t do during their experiences, and how to navigate insurance considerations and decisions around paid vs. unpaid placements. We’ll also dive into how different schools manage their WBL programs and what you should expect from students who participate.

You’ll hear from state agency representatives as well as leaders from both high schools and colleges, sharing insights on how WBL is structured and managed across North Dakota and Minnesota. We’ll also highlight funding sources available to support wages and programming, including WIOA, EDA grants, and other resources.

Finally, we’ll talk about what expectations you should have with your WBL students to ensure a meaningful and productive experience for both the student and your organization.
