The Center for Civic Engagement’s Candidate Workshop 101 is a practical, nonpartisan, three‑hour session designed to help prospective 2026 candidates move from interest to informed action. The workshop will feature networking and Q&A with experienced local leaders who can speak candidly about campaigning, time commitments and life in public office.
Participants will:
- learn the formal steps to launch a campaign from North Dakota’s chief election officer
- gain insight into anticipated open seats
- receive campaigning guidance from Velocity Public Affairs

9:55 – 10:15 a.m. | 2026 Local Political Landscape: Open Seats & Opportunities

Where community leaders are most needed and how to evaluate “fit.”
10:15 – 10:45 a.m. | Campaigning 101
Velocity Public Affairs
Building a plan: message, voter targeting, team, budget, and calendar.
Fundraising basics and compliance mindset.
Field & communications fundamentals (doors, phones, digital, earned media).
10:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. | Networking + Breakout Q&A with Local Political Leaders
Rotating breakout conversations / “office hours” format.
