Leadership isn’t just about a job title—it’s about how you show up, take responsibility and lean into challenges. In this transformative session, Dr. Jill Nelson, a Dare to Lead certified facilitator, will guide you on a journey to redefine what it means to lead with courage. 


Explore what daring leadership truly is and, just as importantly, what it isn’t. Dr. Nelson will guide you through the principles of daring leadership, drawing from Brené Brown's acclaimed research. You’ll uncover the Four Skillsets of Courage Building, practical tools designed to help you navigate discomfort, inspire trust and align with your values. Reflect on what may be holding you back from becoming the leader you aspire to be and gain clarity on how to embrace vulnerability as a strength. 


Whether you're leading a team, managing a project or simply striving to show up authentically in your personal or professional life, this session will leave you with new insights and actionable strategies. You’ll walk away with the confidence and skills to lead boldly, build trust and foster meaningful connections.

About Jill Nelson, PhD: 
Dr. Jill Nelson is a speaker, leader and professor of counseling at North Dakota State University. She is a Board-Certified Coach (BCC), consultant and researcher with expertise in well-being practices, shame and shame resilience, and leadership development. Dr. Nelson’s passion is to inspire people to be brave and to flourish in their personal and professional lives. She is a “Daring Way” and “Dare to Lead” certified facilitator, and she teaches workshops and leadership training using curriculum based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown. She enjoys reading fiction, travelling and spending time with wholehearted people. She is extremely grateful to spend her days inspiring others to be courageous and authentic in all they do. 

Call for Women Connect Speakers!

We're seeking speakers who can:

  • Share personal experiences with failure and the challenges faced.
  • Reflect on lessons learned and how the experience led to growth.
  • Inspire others to view failure as a stepping stone to success.

Application questions include:

  1. A brief summary of your story of failure and what you’ve learned from it. 
  2. How do you believe your experience can help others?
  3. A short bio and any relevant speaking experience. 

Deadline to apply: Friday, February 14 

Event date you will be speaking: Tuesday, April 29
Four selected speakers will speak for 15 minutes each (ted-talk style). Following the four talks, we will have a 20-minute panel featuring each speaker to answer audience questions.
